Indian Cultural Centre in Maldives Celebrates 9th Ayurveda Day

The Indian Cultural Centre, under the High Commission of India in Maldives, celebrated the 9th Ayurveda Day (marked on the 29 th of October annually) with an inspiring program dedicated to promoting wellness through Ayurveda, Yoga, and music therapy.

The Deputy High Commissioner of the Indian High Commission, Mr. Gaurav, addressed the gathering in the beginning and highlighted the relevance of Ayurveda not only in treating chronic ailments but also in preventive health. He emphasized Ayurveda's potential to address modern lifestyle-related health concerns and underscored its alignment with sustainable and natural living.

Ms. Manjistha Mukherjee, the Director of the Indian Cultural Centre, expressed the Centre's commitment to promoting holistic well-being in the Maldives through specialized workshops, as well as regular Yoga sessions focusing on stretching and breathing. She shared her gratitude with the audience for their sincere participation and enthusiasm, reinforcing the Centre’s dedication to fostering closer India-Maldives cultural ties through such wellness initiatives.

The event opened with a documentary on the journey of Ayurveda, tracing its roots and its lasting relevance in modern wellness practices. This was followed by an insightful presentation from Ms. Ritu, the Centre’s India-based Yoga teacher, who spoke on the integral connection between Ayurveda and Yoga, particularly focusing on how breathing and stretching exercises serve as powerful tools for balancing the body’s doshas. In her simple yet profound explanation, she illustrated how Ayurveda and Yoga, together, offer a holistic approach to health.

The event concluded on a serene note with a soothing music therapy session by the Centre’s India-based music teacher, whose gentle harmonies invited the audience to relax, de-stress, and immerse themselves in a meditative calm, wrapping up an evening devoted to wellness and inner peace.
